During the 1970 to 1987 period, West Nally handled many iconic sport and music events and they are demonstrated here. Since the end of the West Nally era, Patrick has continued to work as a consultant in a range of sporting areas and is now a lecturer in sports marketing. He has an office back in Berkeley Square and has launched this West Nally website as a repository for the many achievements of the West Nally Group. Also, so that students can use the materials in their study of sports marketing.
We have been working with West Nally for a number of years. The company itself is no longer trading but due to the importance of the work they did during the 70’s and 80’s it was felt that there needed to be a repository for all the of the materials they accumulated over the years. Co-founder Patrick Nally, who is seen as the ‘Godfather of Sports Marketing’, is still very much active within the industry speaking at conferences and helping Sports Marketing students with then studies.
When tasked with producing a website for West Nally the obvious choice was to use WordPress. The theme we chose to use was very flexible… and it needed to be! The sheer volume and variety of content we were provided with meant that we needed to create a variety of layouts to stop the site being repetitive.
Aside from the website itself we were also tasked with cleaning up a huge amount of scanned documents from the era. Due to the age of the documents and the methods used in their original creation (some were over 30 years old!) we had to spend a considerable amount of time cleaning, re-compiling and performing OCR (Optical Character Recognition) on them. The resulting PDF’s are now available to download on the website and provide an excellent insight into the birth and growth of what is now a hugely lucrative industry worldwide, of which West Nally were the originators.
